By the way, 5G modules including modem cost around 30€ as retail goods, for OEM customers (car manufacturers) probably less than 20€
So then we basically all gave ourselves the answer. If Mercedes pursues the same strategy and discontinues digital after-sales services after about 5 years, then you can no longer buy a Mercedes for rational reasons. Leasing of max. 48 months is still possible, everything else is not rationally justifiable.
If you order an EQS today, there is a serious risk that in 2030 the car will only drive normally from A to B, but you will no longer be able to use all the digital content in the vehicle. In fact, actually useless. So a complete write-off of 200,000 euros within 5 years.
Not to mention whether there is anything to upgrade on the MBUX, as is possible with Tesla.
Today’s vehicles are digital, whether you like it or not. Basically a PC on wheels. So if you drive the Apple solution (!), i.e. solder everything firmly and prefer to buy new instead of replace, then I am also curious how they will implement the EU directives for repairability.
