(Stockholm) Drottningholm Palace is a Swedish residential castle on the island of Lovön in Lake Mälaren in the municipality of Ekerö.

It was originally a royal pleasure palace and is now the private residence of the Swedish royal family Bernadotte, currently King Carl XVI Gustaf and his wife Silvia, who moved into the south wing in 1982 and have since used Stockholm Palace only for representative purposes.

The entire complex of the Drottningholm Crown Estate has been under state protection since 1935 as Byggnadsminne and was the first Swedish cultural monument to be included in the UNESCO World Heritage List due to two special buildings, the Chinese Pavilion (Kina slott) and the Palace Theatre (Slottsteater). Drottningholm Palace is also known as the “Swedish Versailles” because of its art-historical position.

In addition to Drottningholm Palace, there are a large number of other royal palaces and parks in Sweden, most of which can be visited: Stockholm Castle (official residence of the king), Gripsholm Castle, Rosendal Castle, Rosersberg Castle, Strömsholm Castle, Tullgarn Castle, Ulriksdal Castle, Hagapark (Haga Castle is the residence of the Crown Princess) and the park of the royal summer villa Solliden, which was built near the ruined Borgholm Castle and is privately owned by the king.
