What are the symptoms of circular hair loss?
Hair loss begins suddenly and often with one spot or a few bald patches about the size of a coin. Within a few weeks, these areas become larger. It usually affects the scalp or body hair, but eyebrows or beard can also show this form of hair loss. Often there are still very short hairs in these areas. The skin does not look altered or inflamed.
The severity of circular hair loss is quite different. If the areas remain round and demarcated, experts speak of the mildest form, alopecia reticularis. A complete loss of head hair is called alopecia totalis, a complete loss of head and body hair is called alopecia universalis.
