If I meet someone on the street and we see each other, I greet them or give them a friendly nod.

    In Spain, just because of the warmth and friendliness and the mentality of the people there, I experience that the greeting is almost always returned with a smile.

    In Poland, it’s just the opposite. This is so blatant, I have never experienced it in any other country.

    I greeted six people this morning. Reaction: Five icy stares, no facial expressions. No reaction. Nothing.

    A woman looked at me and nodded a little furtively. It seems to be completely normal here to completely ignore people you don’t know.

    What’s wrong with these people? Or what, from their point of view, is wrong with me?
